The house of Bernarda Alba will be the first play by Lorca performed at the National Theatre of Catalonia

With leading actresses Nuria Espert and Rosa María Sarda, the play directed by Lluis Pasqual will be presented next April 29th at the 400-seat Experimental Hall of the Theatre, designed by Ricardo Bofill, as per the first Director of the National Theatre of Catalonia, Jose Maria Flotats’ special request.
In 1997 Bofill and Flotats envisaged the dream of a nation with its own cultural heritage, to found a public theatre that became a successful model worldwide.
TNC follows the architectonic tradition of the Greek Theatre. The building combines two classic archetypes, the temple and the theatre. It includes 3 halls: the Experimental Hall, or magic box, with a fourth wall that becomes part of the show; in a separate wing the Hall called Workshop,  reserved to the scenery set construction and other activities and the 900-seat wood Classical Hall, perfectly classical, inspired in Palladio’s theatres of Vincenza.

The performance of this key play in Federico García Lorca’s repertoire shows the avant-garde trends of Barcelona today.
