Ricardo Bofill designs a sustainable Terminal for Barcelona Airport

Ricardo Bofill architectural firm has designed a new green Terminal for Barcelona’s airport, with sustainable and maximum energy efficiency criteria. The new Terminal T1 with a capacity of 30 millions passengers per year will be inaugurated this summer. In contrast to present airport terminals, the new building’s main feature is light. As explained Albert Cassart, engineer at Plan Barcelona “the  glass walls flood natural light into the building that will be utilized throughout the public spaces generating a soft and controlled lighting that clearly results in energy saving”. Energy saving is also the reason for the installation of 800 solar panels in Bofill’s project.
