The Bartolomeo Project for Dnepropetrovsk Approved

04/06/2009
After an extraordinary cooperation between Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura and Logos – the Ukrainian holding run by the visionary Valeriy Shamotiy – the Urban Planning Council of Dnepropetrovsk has approved the project for the BARTOLOMEO complex.

The project was forcefully presented by Ricardo E. Bofill. The Council session was held at the head office of the Dnepropetrovsk City Hall’s Department of Architecture and Planning on December 19 2008 and aroused much interest in the city. Attending the session were all the members of the Urban Planning Council as well as numerous architects, journalists, municipal civil servants and professors and students of architecture.

Discussion of the project was emotionally charged by virtue of the privileged nature of the site as the culminating point of the historical Karl Marx thoroughfare. Chief Architect Julia Sayenko, Honorary Architect and the city’s former Chief Architect Viacheslav Vnukov, as well as other members of the Council all stressed the qualities of the project. The Catalan architect worked in cooperation with the Ukrainian architect Vadim Kozlov, who acted as the local architect.

This is the second project by Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura to have been approved by a municipal Urban Planning Council in Ukraine – the first, dated December 2007, was for Kiev – and one of the very few projects by foreign architects approved in Ukraine.
