1997, Madrid, Spain
What was clearly needed for the new airport of Barajas was a functional, rational and technically impeccable design that would also be clear, restful and of stable, timeless modernity. Light, space, vegetation, views, orientation, harmonious relations with the surroundings and simplicity were the criteria that informed the design of this building, emblematic of the new modernity that Madrid represents, the gateway to the capital and a key point in airborne traffic between Europe and Latin America.
