La Petite Cathedrale

1971, Cergy-Pontoise, France
A residential complex, sited in the Cergy-Pontoise new town, arranged around a central inner street, which features the geometrical methodology of combining cubic volumes in space and referring for the first time to an archetype from history: the Gothic cathedrale. Apart from the cultural symbolism, this reinterpreting of history in a social housing reflects a desire to provide its inhabitants with large, monumental public spaces.
