A house for music

26/04/2007
During the ceremony that opened the House for Music, Theatre and Dance, the Consejo de Castilla y Leon named “Miguel Delibes” Ricardo Bofill´s new building, grand as the great Spanish writer himself. The symphony hall with a capacity for 1,700 people, is one of the biggest concert halls in Spain. Besides, there is chamber music room with 500 seats and a theatre accommodating 600.

In 2001 the team Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura won the competition for the project under the motto “Waves”, with reference to sound waves suggested by the undulating steel roofs that shape the building and define its logotype.

The building, wrapped in a glass walls, absorbs the red colour of its structure in harmony with the ochre shades of the Plaza Mayor of Valladolid and reflects the colours of the surrounding meseta landscape.
