The project’s organic design was inspired by the scallop shell, the symbol of the the pilgrimage route “Camino de Santiago”, found on the shores of Galicia. The scheme is constructed on a spiral-shape based on the golden ratio, two perpendicular axes and a square grid with a logarithmic growth pattern.
RBTA has reinterpreted Santiago’s urban fabric, the city’s iconic buildings, and its vernacular, Romanesque and Baroque heritage, to deliver a modern cultural hub that also provides a new civic plaza for the city.
